About Us

Dorset Collegiate is named after the Dorset Eskimos, a race of native people who frequented this area sometime between 2700 and 1000 years ago. The school opened to serve the communities of Brighton, Triton, Pilley's Island and Robert's Arm on September 6, 1977. It was officially opened on November 25 of that year by Premier Frank D. Moores. Beginning September 2005, under the new Nova Central School Board, all students grades 7-12 from Miles Cove to Brighton attend Dorset Collegiate.

In September 2011, one student from Long Island also attends Dorset Collegiate. Dorset Collegiate is under the jurisdiction of the Nova Central School District. In the 2011-2012 school year, Dorset has a school population of 187 students.
